Pale Moon 35.0.0 is a free, open-source web browser from The Pale Moon Project, released on 17 September 2026. You can download Pale Moon for Windows from the project's site; it also runs on Linux, macOS and FreeBSD.
Pale Moon has been developed since October 2009 and takes a path of its own. While most browsers today are built on Chromium, Pale Moon runs on UXP, the Unified XUL Platform that the project maintains in its public repository. XUL, the XML User Interface Language, is the older technology that once powered Mozilla browsers, and its survival here explains Pale Moon's character: a classic interface with menus and toolbars that the user can rearrange, and support for its own format of extensions and themes. The code is written in C and C++ with JavaScript and CSS for the interface, and it is released under the Mozilla Public License. For users, the result is a browser that feels familiar to anyone who used web browsers in the 2000s and 2010s, with a strong focus on customisation and on letting the user decide how the program behaves. The trade-off is compatibility: some modern websites are tested only in Chromium and Firefox, and they may not work perfectly in Pale Moon. The interface is available in many languages, including English and Russian.
Pale Moon runs on current Windows versions on x86, x86-64 and ARM processors. Before switching completely, open the sites you use every day, especially online banking and web apps, and check that they work as expected.
Take the browser only from palemoon.org. The project publishes updates regularly, and staying on the latest version is the main way to stay protected, as with any browser. Extensions should also come from the project's own add-on site.
Pale Moon fits people who miss the classic browser layout, users of older or weaker computers, and anyone who wants to avoid the Chromium monoculture. If you depend on web apps for work, keep a second, mainstream browser installed for sites that do not cooperate.
Pale Moon is free and open source; the project is supported by donations.
